On Wednesday night, Anderson Cooper discussed Ivanka Trump‘s surprise drop-ins at numerous meetings of her father’s with Michael D’Antonio, a Donald Trump biographer, and political commentator Kirsten Powers.
D’Antonio said the Ivanka cameos was “not at all surprising,” saying she did the same thing as a child when her father had business meetings and he would take her calls while she was at school “to demonstrate how close they were.”
“She’s been this kind of prop and instrument for him most of her life,” he said.
Cooper made the comparison to Powers that if it was Chelsea Clinton popping in for President Hillary Clinton‘s meetings, saying Republicans wouldn’t treat that as normal.
“Well I don’t think it is normal,” Powers reacted.
Powers elaborated on what she thinks is the president’s rationale behind such meetings.
“I don’t know if he realizes that this isn’t that impressive to people,” she said. “I think he thinks Ivanka’s sort of his prized possession and that everybody is going to be so blown away because she shows up… but nobody cares.”
Powers added that “this is the White House” and that nobody is going to stop and say “Oh my gosh, Ivanka’s here! This is so amazing!”
“This is the president of the United States,” she said. “They don’t need the daughter coming in in the middle of the meeting.”
