Fox’s Outnumbered considered Thursday afternoon the District of Columbia David A. Clarke School of Law’s delaying of exams for students who wanted to provide legal assistance to Baltimore protesters — not an ungenerous idea given that many are still languishing in jail without charges.
To most of the Fox panel, this seemed like condoning lawlessness. “The only people who need legal advice would be looters,” Harris Faulkner said. “Is a little looting okay then?”
“Last time I checked protesting was legal,” guest Rob O’Neill said. “So why do you need legal advice, when they’re breaking the law?”
Fox contributor Kirsten Powers reminded the panel that just because a person was arrested for something didn’t mean they were automatically guilty of it. “People need representation are charged with crimes,” Powers said. “You don’t pick sides. You still get to have representation. People could be falsely accused. We don’t know every single person who was arrested was arrested for the right reason.”
To Andrea Tantaros’ claim that she wanted a lawyer “who could multitask,” Powers said that when she had been in law school she would have been unable to take exams and provide pro bono help in a civil unrest situation simultaneously.
