The White House strongly expressed disagreement with the Supreme Court’s ruling on Hobby Lobby yesterday (as Josh Earnest put it “the Constitutional lawyer in the Oval Office disagrees”), as well as support for giving women contraception, but on Fox today, Democrat Kirsten Powers asked why if they really believe in giving women contraception, they don’t just “do that directly.”
Powers made the case that if the White House wanted to, they could get contraception to women themselves.
“There are fifty family planning clinics in the state of Colorado that the government already has a relationship with that they could provide the contraception through those clinics. Why does it have to be done through the employer? It doesn’t.”
She suggested the reason the White House isn’t doing this is because it’s “a political issue that they just want” to have out there.
